Mother's Day 2017

I had a really relaxing Mother's Day weekend this year. On Saturday I caved to the boys' request to make s'mores and we had so much fun competing for the best roasted marshmallow.

On Sunday Jon got up with the kids and let me sleep in while he and the boys made pancakes. We had a quiet day at home and then went to Nonna and Pepe's for dinner. C, Tio, Lyla, Zach, Gran, Papa, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Di Di, and TJ joined us as well. Reed asked if he could take his camera along and so I decided to let him be the exclusive photographer for the evening. As always I love the images he captured!!!

A Day in the Life of the McClartys - Spring 2017

I haven't done one of these in almost a year and since Kieran is getting ready to start preschool and my work schedule will be changing I thought it was a good time to document our current life. As always feel free to skim the pictures and avoid my lengthy commentary.

5:00 My alarm goes off, I throw running clothes on and head in to town for a 4.5 mile run.

6:05 I'm back home and know I have ten minutes before the boys' clocks turn to their wake-up color so I jump in the shower. I'm able to get dressed and put makeup on before anyone wakes up.

6:25 Kieran wakes up, we cuddle for a few minutes, and decide we should make muffins for breakfast.

6:45 Jon comes out of our room ready for work and I remind him we need to move some furniture we are donating into the driveway before he leaves. I pop the muffins into the oven, we move the furniture, and I feed Dodger.

7:00 Reed wakes up just as Jon drives away, he's excited I saved some muffin batter for him. I clean out the dishwasher, put plates together for breakfast (cherries, peaches, breakfast sausage, hemp milk, and vitamins), and get clothes out for the boys while Reed makes his bed.

7:15 The muffins are done and the boys dig in.

7:30 Breakfast is over and the boys are supposed to be getting dress but instead they get into a fight that I break up. I respond to a few emails for work while they get dressed. They read a book together while I do the breakfast dishes and make my bed.

7:50 We head out to walk Dodger. I spend most of the walk on my phone fixing a work problem. Dodger takes advantage of me being distracted and sneaks into the ditch for a swim. He looks like a dog dipped in chocolate when he emerges.

8:20 We are home from the walk, the boys go potty, and we all brush our teeth. Since I'm not working today we don't have to be at school until 9:00 so I let the boys play with hot wheels while I start a load of laundry and make myself an iced coffee.

8:40 The boys put on their shoes and get in the car. We leave for town and I park near Reed's school but since we are early we walk to the dry cleaners to pick up clothes. We swing back by the car to drop off the clothes and then walk to school. We see Connor getting dropped off and the boys all run around hugging each other and chatting away (it's adorable to watch them interact).

9:05 We are back home and Kieran gets out a snack (granola bar) while I do some more emailing for work. I decide my car has turned into a garbage bin and take a couple trips back and forth cleaning it out while Kieran plays with the Hot Wheels some more.

9:30 Kier declares he has to poop, runs to the bathroom, and goes all by himself. He is rewarded with a piece of licorice for his independence (for some reason even though he has been potty trained for a year and a half he all of the sudden was needing Mom to accompany him every time he needed to go to the bathroom - bribery to the rescue!!!).  Kieran eats his licorice outside sitting on one of the chairs we are donating, I water the plants on our front porch.

9:45 The guy picking up the furniture was supposed to be there between 9:15 and 9:30, but we need to leave for music class so I leave a note taped to the dresser hoping they will just pick everything up even if I'm not home.

10:00 We go to music class and see a bunch of our friends (literally the entire class is all of our friends - benefits of having kids all at the same time). It is a mixture of Grandmas and Moms who bring the kids and it is always fun to catch-up a little with everyone. Nonna is there with Lyla and Zach and K is super excited about it. Unfortunately he turns into a total grump and decides he doesn't want to sing any of the songs. He keeps palming his forehead and saying "not this song" every time Miss Hannah puts a new song on. After class I take Lyla and Kieran down to the bench they love to sit on while Nonna packs Zach up.

10:45 We say our goodbyes and head back to Kingsburg to run a few errands. We make stops at the hardware store, pharmacy, and window covering store. We also take a deposit into the bank for work. Grandma texts me to see if I need anything at Costco - she's my personal Costco shopper and saves me so many trips by picking things up for me every couple of weeks.

12:00 We pick Reed up from school and head home. We all guess if the furniture will be picked up and cheer when we turn the corner and see an empty driveway!!!

12:20 I make lunch - leftover pasta with marinara sauce, grilled chicken, and more cherries. Kieran also grabs a few pita chips to add to his plate.

12:50 We are done with lunch. The boys play while I do the dishes and finish a web-based training for work.

1:30 It is nap time and Kieran wants to hear The Book with no Pictures. The boys are rolling around laughing but somehow Kier still falls asleep pretty quickly even after the book excitement. We are on snack duty for Reed's baseball game tonight so Reed and I assemble snack bags. Reed insists that we need to put baseball stickers on them since we put soccer stickers on the ones we made in the fall (warning to all parents - don't do anything once you aren't prepared to repeat over and over again). We use a punch to cut out circles, Reed sends them through our sticker maker, and I quickly make them look like baseballs with a red marker. Reed is pretty pleased with the end product so we'll count that as a success.

2:15 A package with bathing suits I've ordered arrives and I make the decision to try them on. I knew ordering bathing suits online was a bad idea but there was a super sale and free returns so I gave it a shot. I've ordered one piece "Mom suits" but because I have a pretty long torso they are not very PG. Comments from Reed include "is that all of it?" "are there any more pieces to it?" "I wish it covered more of your body parts" "they are just too nude-y bootie" Yep buddy, message received, they will be returned immediately.

2:30 I have Reed go to his room to play for his hour of quiet time while I catch up on some more work for the office.

3:20 Reed comes out asking for ointment. He has a huge rash on the back of his knee. I kick myself for not washing his legs after he played with Connor in the grass after school, apply the ointment, and have Reed go back to his room.

3:30 Reed emerges again to let me know quiet time is over. I've discovered I left a file at the office that I need and decide I can pick it up in the morning with the boys on our way to Fresno. The boys have been dying to visit Auntie P so I IM her to make sure she'll be there in the morning. Reed takes over the keyboard and sends Paula more IMs - a bunch of emojis followed by "Love Reed" and then two math problems (his love language). He gets the biggest grin each time she sends a message back. I finish up the spreadsheet I was working on and then turn the computer off. Reed helps me do laundry.

4:05 I wake Kieran up from his nap by putting the song "Lollipop" on the Sonos in his room. He pops right up and he and Reed immediately have a dance party. I fold some laundry while they monkey around.

4:30 I preheat the oven and the boys get out their snacks. They choose banana muffins and lollipops (Kieran got two lollipops at the bank earlier and I told him they could have them after quiet time). While they snack I feed Dodger, put French fries in the oven, put clothes in the dryer, give Reed his inhaler and allergy medicine, load the car up with equipment and snacks for the baseball game, and look up the team he is playing to confirm his best friend from school is on the other team.

5:00 I get a text from Jon that says he'll be able to make it home so we can all ride together instead of meeting us at 6:00 which was the original plan. I'm pretty stoked not to have to carry everything by myself. Everyone goes potty and Reed puts his uniform on. I help him with his belt and pack up dinner for him (hamburger with ketchup and avocado and fries).

5:20 We get in the car, Jon arrives home, he jumps in our car and we are off.

5:30 We arrive at the baseball field and unload the car. We watch the coach's younger son while the kids have practice.

6:00 The game starts and Nonna and Pepe arrive to watch. Reed goes three for three hitting off of the coach (they never had to get the tee out for him), but still has no attention span when fielding.

7:00 The game is over, we hand out our snacks, and then head to the local hamburger restaurant for dinner. Reed loves the hamburger I brought for him but says the fries aren't very good.

7:55 We get home and Jon gives the boys a bath and gets their teeth brushed while I water the plants in our garden and give Dodger a little love.

8:15 We tuck the boys in and say goodnight. Kieran request cuddles so I lay in bed with him for a few minutes talking about our day. Jon has turned on the Arsenal game so I watch while I continue my forever project of organizing pictures and videos on my computer.

9:30 - I keep falling asleep waiting for videos to load so I decide I should go to bed soon. I get a few things out for the next day, give Dodger a good night treat, and head to bed. Jon stays up to watch the end of the game.
