Three and a Half Years

It has definitely hit me in the last few months that we have two kids (no more babies, no more toddlers). I am really loving this stage. The boys are basically best friends and play together all of the time. There are definitely still fights and Kieran can sometimes be quite grumpy in the morning, but for the most part I can talk and rationalize with him about almost everything. In the last few weeks we have definitely hit a bit of a "threenager" streak, but I have to keep reminding myself he completely skipped the terrible twos and this stage with Reed started much earlier and lasted much longer so I need to give Kieran a little bit of a break.

Kier has one of the best personalities I've ever been around. He is super sweet and loving but also so funny and comical. He has one of the best laughs ever and if he's in a funk I can usually tickle him out of it in a minute or two. This boy has me wrapped around his finger and I think he is starting to realize it. He is also a Mama's boy but enjoys his time with Jon. Kieran definitely has a temper and when he gets really mad he will swing at anything that comes close to him. You can witness his internal struggle with wanting to hit something and knowing that he shouldn't. He also wants to do everything that Reed does which leaves him frustrated some of the time when he can't write his name, draw a picture of something, or join a sports team. At the same time I think his wanting to be like his big brother has led to him being way more independent. He can get dressed by himself, goes to the bathroom without being reminded, put his shoes and bike helmet on by himself, can buckle his own car seat, loves cutting vegetables, and I completely trust him to follow the rules of not going in the street, unlocking the gates, etc. without having to watch him every second.

Interesting Facts

Weight: 31.5 pounds

Height: 39.5 inches

Clothing Size:  He can fit into 3T and 4T for most pajamas and shirts, meaning he still fits into his 3T items for the most part, but anything new is being purchased in size 4T. As for bottoms he can still fit into 2T shorts because he's so skinny and only needs 3T pants for the length.

Shoe Size: 9

Kieran likes: Anything Superhero or Ninja Turtles, playing outside, riding his balance bike, playing with Dodger, helping in the garden or kitchen, playing with Reed, reading books, craft projects, watching any tv show or movie, and bath time.

Kieran dislikes: When Reed won't let him make the rules, when he's not immediately perfect at something, getting in trouble, and talking to people he doesn't know.

Nicknames: Kier, K, K-Bug, Monkey Butt,

Food: If K could eat breakfast and snacks all day he would be in heaven. His favorite breakfast foods are vegan cinnamon raisin rolls from Trader Joe's, Daiya (allergy friendly) greek yogurts, breakfast sausage, and any fruit. Snack favorites are hummus and crackers, guacamole and chips, fruit sauce packets, granola bars, cashews, and dried fruits. He will pick at a salad depending on the dressing and does like cucumbers, yams, and green beans, most other vegetables he will try a bite of but that is about it. He loves eating out with me on our mornings without Reed and we usually hit up Starbucks to get him and an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich to keep Reed's allergens in his diet. At home we rarely eat things Reed is allergic to so Kieran's meals are decided by what Reed can and can't eat.

Friends: If you ask him who his best friend is he will usually say Lyla. He also names most of the girls that live in Kingsburg as his friends but none of the boys (he will make an exception for Connor sometimes).

Communication: Kieran knows his numbers 1-10 and can count much higher, he knows most of his upper and lower case letters, and he can tell us how to spell his name. He has a very large vocabulary and is pretty easy to understand for the most part. The letter he seems to have the most trouble with is R. I've started picking out words he says incorrectly and working on correcting them one at a time. So far we've fixed America (Amer-i-coo-wa), just (gust), and are working on four/more/door all of which are said with a W sound thrown in.

Favorite Color(s): Red

How Kieran is sleeping:  He goes to bed around 7:45pm and usually falls asleep within 15 minutes after flipping through a few books or playing with a couple action figures. He almost always sleeps through the night and emerges from his bedroom when his tot clock changes color each morning at 6:15am. He sleeps in a twin bed, with a night light and sound machine as well as his special blue blankie. There are usually a couple stuffed animals in bed with him but none of them absolutely have to be there for him to sleep. He takes a nap most afternoons, going down around 1:30/2:00 and sleeping for anywhere from 2 - 2.5 hrs (I always wake him up by 4:00). If he needs to skip a nap because we are going to be doing something he's usually fine and will catch a cat nap in the car if he can.

Milestones over the last six months:
Kieran learned how to wink
He sets the table when asked
We took K on his first commercial flight
Kier started giving us a proper thumbs up
He can get himself dressed most days
Kieran, Reed, and I had his first slumber party a couple of months ago when Jon was out of town for work
