We finally celebrated Kieran's first Birthday with a proper party on Saturday. I kind of went with a Garden/Growing theme. As we have done with Reed's Birthdays, we kept the party small, just inviting Grandparents, Great Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and first cousins. Since some of Kieran's favorite foods are beans, rice, and avocado we did a taco bar and Mexican side dishes. There was present opening, a video that Jon and I put together of the Bug's first year, and lots of eating. We let Kieran go at a slice of cake and while he didn't shove it in his face he did eat almost every last bit - save for the crumbs he was covered in and the bites he very lovingly shared with Mom.

Grapes that Tio grew and oranges that Mom grew (persimmons swiped from HMC) |
I think I only made two mistakes the whole night. The first was letting Kieran open C and Tio's gift first. Historically they've always given the boys gifts that they absolutely adore and this time around they did it again!!! Kieran was so in love with the gathering drum they gave him he could care less about opening any of the other amazing gifts. Luckily as the night wore on he did play with the other toys and Mom is pretty excited about how dapper this Dude is going to look this Winter in all of his new duds. See below for the second mistake.

What has become the McClarty Birthday staple -
Vegan, soy-free vanilla cake with vanilla "butter"cream frosting |
The second of my mistakes came in waiting until the end of the night to try and get some group shots. C, Tio, and Lyla had already left, the kids were beyond tired, and we were missing at least one person in most of the pictures.
