June 2018 Happenings

We were a bit more mellow in the month of June which was a nice change of pace. We had a few end of school year things, lots of goofing around, Father's Day, G-Momma and Grandma's Birthdays, and a quick trip to the coast. The last week of kindergarten was crazy - I think there was a parent volunteer request almost daily and the calendar was full of fun activities. I was able to help out at the Kindergarten Olympics and also managed to make it to their Park Day. The last day of school was a little bitter sweet, we loved Reed's teacher and will miss seeing her next year when he moves to the 1st grade school but we had a few incidents at the end of the year that also made me happy to close the chapter on that school and start fresh next year. It's amazing to think all that Reed has learned/accomplished in the last 9 months. He regularly reads books cover to cover himself, has shot up a couple of inches, and in general is much more responsible.

Next up was the kids' music class performances. Reed sang a few songs with his class and then performed two keyboard solos (two hands, multiple notes, big boy stuff). Miss Hannah who has been one of the boys' music teachers since Reed was two years old is moving away so this recital was extra special as it was her farewell. C helped Zach with his class performance and Serena and Emmett were in this class as well, they all looked a bit overwhelmed standing in front of everyone but still absolutely adorable! Then Lyla, Kieran, and Bailey sang a song together and then played two songs all together on the piano. They were simple songs, just whole notes, but they were so cute, tried really hard, and had the crowd laughing at their antics.

The following weekend we attended Lyla's Gymnastics performance. Jeffrey, Cambria, and Reed's friend Aubrey from school were all in the same class so the boys were excited to see everyone perform. Zach cuddled with me for the entire recital and the boys were literally on the edge of their seats watching all of the performances. I did get a bit nostalgic watching all of the kids performing and remembering, with fondness, the ballet recitals of my childhood. After the performance the boys gave Lyla some flowers and then I tried to get a picture of the cousins - this proved pretty difficult when the older three got in an argument about who should be in the middle of the picture.

The silliness that happens in our house on a daily basis is pretty amazing. One day I caught Reed doing a photo shoot with Kieran dressed in a Fresno Foxes shirt, my glasses, making silly faces, Reed was shouting out instructions on poses and snapping shots while Kieran was being the perfect model. One weekend the boys were back in their rooms for awhile and when they emerged they were dressed (or maybe more correctly "stripped down") to matching outfits and were trying to trick us into thinking that they had switched places.

Father's Day morning the boys made "Dad" pancakes and gave Jon some gifts they had made at school (please ignore Jon's sunglasses, he had been hit in the eye with a ping pong ball the night before and his eye was super sensitive to light). We had both sides of the family over again for Father's Day dinner. Unfortunately Aunt Di Di and TJ got stuck in horrible traffic and didn't make it. The weather was unusually pleasant and we were able to eat outside which was really nice. The kiddos were able to run around and play while the adults sat around and ate and chatted for a bit longer.

Grandma watched the boys all day on her Birthday. After work Jon and I drove up to meet them, Grandpa, and G-Momma for a yummy dinner at Pismo's. It had been G-Momma's Birthday the week before so it was the perfect time to celebrate both of them. Unfortunately I only have one picture from the evening, I think when we were inside I was too busy videoing Kieran and G-Momma's antics - they were playing "football" with ice cubes across the table.

We decided somewhat spur of the moment to head to the coast. There had been a rental cancellation at the condo and it was magically available on a weekend we weren't packing plums and it wasn't the end of the world if Jon wasn't in the office on Saturday. It was also amazing because it was about 40 degrees cooler than at home and a great two days spending time with the boys!
