A few weeks back we got the exciting news that one of Jon's college roommates and his wife are expecting their first child. They live in New York, so we don't see them often, but a couple's baby shower was being thrown for them in San Diego this past weekend so we decided to load up the family and make a weekend out of it. We were able to stay with another one of Jon's roommates who lives in San Diego and has two daughters himself. It's always nice to visit someone who has kids, they understand nap times, eating demands, and their house is usually pretty kid friendly. Reed did great on our way down, hanging in his car seat for the first two hours, then we stopped for lunch, then another twenty minutes in the car and he was out for three hours. We were about half an hour away when he woke up, ate his snack, and then played happily until our arrival. Maya, Phil and Kelly's three year old daughter, was very excited to have a new friend to play with and quickly got to work showing Reed the lay of the land. She was very proud of her basil plant and even got Reed to eat an entire leaf - it's amazing what an older kid can inspire your child to do!
The shower was late in the afternoon on Saturday so we packed up the kids and spent the morning at the Aquarium. Reed was amazed by all the different animals and couldn't stop saying "ish" every time we got to a tank of fish. They have a great outdoor area for kids plus a tide pool exhibit that Reed loved.
The shower for Mark and Stacey was very nice and Adam, Marli, and Cole made the drive down from LA, so that meant all four roommates (and their families) were together for the first time in two years. Our brood has definitely expanded since then!
The boys went out after the shower was over, which meant the Moms got to tuck the little ones in, and get to bed much earlier. This was great for me because Sunday was going to be a marathon of a day. . . stay tuned . . .
