Grandma and Grandpa decided to spend a full week up at their cabin again this year. Since Jon and I are fairly caught up at work we took Tuesday off to head up to the hills and join them. Kieran is now down to one nap a day but for some reason woke at 5:00 am. It worked perfectly because he slept for a good chunk of the hour drive and then was ready to play when we arrived.
Almost immediately we headed out on a stroll. Reed and Grandpa led the pack finding mud puddles and fallen trees along the way. We let Kieran "walk" and I didn't even bring the carrier. He loved climbing up hills. I would carry him for a few minutes here and there but he would soon want to get down again and wasn't phased by the rough terrain or the million spills he took. Once we got back to the cabin Grandma and Grandpa made delicious hamburgers and we had a relaxing lunch. The boys both went down for naps afterwards, but as seems to be the case every time, Reed just couldn't fall asleep. Eventually I let him come out of the bedroom and he and Grandpa played dominoes. Once Kieran was awake it was of course time for snacks and then we went to the meadow area in front of the cabin to play Frisbee. Reed managed to pick it up fairly well and made some good tosses, he also loved chasing the Frisbee. Kieran was content to explore and watch the Frisbee whiz by. Before long it was time to pack up and head home. K did get car sick on the way home so it's something we are going to have to figure out before our next road trip. Even with that it was a great day and was extra special because Jon was able to join us.

What Reed Says Winter 2014/2015 Edition
Over the last few months Reed has somehow continued to expand his vocabulary. He also knows his numbers from 1-10 and can count up to 20 once in awhile. He can identify uppercase and lowercase versions of almost all letters. He loves learning and when you can get him to sit still long enough he will zip through a workbook made for a five year old. Of course I think he is a Superstar but he also has had a pretty bad temper lately - often screeching, kicking, and sometimes even throwing things over seemingly mundane problems. We are really working with him to use words to solve problems and reminding him that Kieran learns from watching his Big Brother and that he wouldn't want Kieran kicking or throwing things at him. Enough about the rollercoaster that is a "threenager" here are all of the cute/funny things he's come up with lately.
Before Christmas I told Reed that some Moms and Dad's don't have enough extra money to buy their kids presents and asked if we should buy them something. He told me "don't worry Mom Santa will still get them presents."
Jon and I were talking about people using hashtags on social media in front of Reed. Apparently he picked up on our conversation and a little later told me "hashtag I love you."
The kiddo refers to letters as uppercase and downercase.
One night at dinner I had removed Kieran's shirt after he had spilled something all over it. He started rubbing his bare chest and Reed declared that "Kieran is nipping his pulls."
Back in January when we were at the zoo Jon read a fact board about sea lions to Reed. I was across the way at another board and said it was my turn to read more interesting animal facts. Reed replied "those weren't interesting those were boring facts."
One morning I heard that Reed was awake in his room. I went in to say good morning and overheard him say "Hi Big Daddy" when I looked he was talking to Pooh.
I was buckling Reed in the car seat and tossed a toy out of the car into the stroller. He asked me why I had done that and I told him it was in case Dad put Kieran in the stroller to take Dodger for a walk (instead of the carrier I usually have him in). Reed then told me that "Dad breaks all of the rules and Mom knows all of the rules."
One morning I got into a bit of a question/answer conversation with the Monkey. It went like this:
Reed:Who made you?
Reed:Who made you?
Me: Grandma and Grandpa.
Reed: How did they make you?
Me: I'm not sure you'll have to ask them
Reed: What was Grandma's job?
Me: To carry me in her belly for 9 months and help me pop.
Reed: What was Grandpa's job?
Me: I'm not sure.
Reed: Well what was the first step in making you?
Me: Look Reed, what is Dodger doing?
Reed and I went to a Mommy and Me yoga class last month. On our way to Fresno we ended up behind Pepe's business partner. I pointed out the big truck to Reed and said that was Pepe's friend Mr. Jensen. He then got really excited and asked me if he was "going to Mommy and Me yoga too?" This is ten times funnier if you know Mike who is a very stereotypical farmer.
During a Sunday dinner Reed started devouring some sliced up pineapple. He has been offered pineapple a ton of times but has never wanted it. When someone asked if he liked pineapple he declared that it wasn't pineapple but "reptile strawberries!!!"

Let's catch up
The past few weeks have gone by quickly but some of the days just seemed horribly long. Kieran has been transitioning to one nap a day, we all ended up sick in one way or another, and Jon was gone for an entire week on a work trip to Chile.
Pepe's Birthday is actually today but we celebrated last night with a barbecue. Gran and Papa even made the trek down for the evening. Pepe said all he wanted to do for his Birthday was have dinner and then hang out in the pool house drinking whisky and playing games with Reed. C, Tio, Jon, and I agreed to having it at his house as long as we could cook dinner. This was good in theory but as anyone who's ever eaten at H's house knows it is pretty hard to keep him out of the kitchen. C and Jon did most of the cooking and Pepe wasn't too bad; only micro-managing the fry making and checking on the burger cooking. After dinner Reed and I made strawberry shortcakes for everyone and the Kiddo even managed to walk the bowl with the lit candle over to Pepe while singing Happy Birthday. The night ended in the pool house as requested. While there was gift opening and the boys playing with Valentines swords (gifted by Pepe and Nonna *with reservations*) Lyla stole the show with her adorable, on-demand excited face!
On the Monday that he left the boys stood at the front door kissing the windows for a few minutes after he drove away, it was very sweet, and a little sad. I felt horrible all day and ended up taking medicine (which I never do). Of course I had a bad reaction to it which landed me on the bathroom floor with a horrible headache throwing up. Luckily Nonna was at C's and could come over for a few hours until I was back to feeling just regular sick.
The rest of the week was pretty uneventful. Reed decided he liked salad, Kieran decided he likes to climb onto things and act like a big boy, I got caught up in the garden thanks to a very helpful three year old, K had his 15 month check-up, Reed (and Pooh) and I had a slumber party, and we all missed Dad, a lot.

Jon got home on Sunday and was great about spending time with the boys while I cooked and did some chores solo. Unfortunately our reunited family bliss was short lived when he developed a fever and ended up in bed the whole next day. Jon finally was feeling better towards the end of the week and so on Thursday he took the day off. We thought taking the boys to the farm show would be a blast but Reed was completely unimpressed by the giant tractors (he wanted to see Combines), and thought the "pictures of animals were boring compared to real animals." He did think the ATV course was "okay" though. Kieran however loved everything. He was content people watching and looking at the tractors, loved watching the trucks run an obstacle course, and was mesmerized by a sticker applying machine.
