By noon everyone was starving so we went back to the cars, packed up, and headed for the cabin. We devoured lunch and then walked around the property a bit and got to check out the newly completed bunk house. The boys definitely approved and are excited to spend the night in it (in a few years). We couldn't have asked for nicer weather or a better first snow day of the year.

Snow Day
After too many years with little rain/snow in the winter we've finally had a decent set of storms that have left snow in the mountains and everything around us looking a lot more lush and clean. There was so little snow last year we didn't make it up once to go skiing or even play in the snow. I've been dying to get the boys up to the mountains to take them sledding and try out a bit of skiing too. Reed and Kieran were both so excited about a day trip with Grandma and Grandpa and couldn't stop talking about it all week. On Thursday morning we drove up 180 to meet Grandma and Grandpa and then follow them into Kings Canyon to find a nice area to walk or ski in from, play for a bit, then head back to the cabin for lunch. Everything went smoothly except Kieran had a bout of carsickness on the way up the hill. With his history it was to be expected and after a couple of minutes of fresh air he was ready to go. We pulled the boys in sleds down a small trail that led to a nice spot for an easy sled run. Reed and Kieran sledded a few times (Reed solo and K with me) and then we strapped skis on their feet and let them try it out. Kieran was fine with it but couldn't hold his balance and Grandma and I had to hold him up as he slid along for a few minutes. Reed did really well, especially considering how icy/slippery the snow was. His gloves were also too bulky and he couldn't really grasp the poles so instead he slid along and Jon helped to balance him. He said he loved it and I'm hoping we can take him up and let him try it again soon. Once the "ski lesson" was over Kieran worked on building Olaf and Anna snowmen with Grandma and learned how to throw a snowball too, which he thought was so much fun. Reed turned into a little mountain goat and took up off the hill. When he was ready to come down he would just plop down on his butt, slide down, then turn around and scramble back up the hill.
