Reed and Kieran have been taking music class for the last month in Reedley. Reed really likes it and Kieran seems to pick things up and sings the songs at home, but rarely participates in the actual class. The music school has a winter performance every year at the local retirement village and all the students are asked to perform, that includes the Toddler Tunes group Reed and Kier are part of. They also ask that a parent stand on the stage with the student (lucky me). This past Tuesday was the program and the boys got to participate in their very first public performance (unless we're counting tantrums). They did pretty good - Kier actually only requested I hold him for one of the four songs and even played the two different instruments he was supposed to, Reed sang along with most of the songs and also did a lot of the hand gestures. Clara is also in the class as well as her cousin so it was fun for them to all be up there together. Pepe and Nonna were able to come watch and thought it was pretty fun. The boys' teacher gave them each a candy cane at the end of their performance but the older group of kids stayed on stage to continue performing. As we were leaving the room Reed said, quite loudly, "those kids did bad so they didn't get a candy cane!"

The very next day was Reed's preschool's Christmas Program. All three classes (3 - 5 year olds) performed together and I think they probably sang six or seven different songs. I picked Nonna and Kieran up and took them to the church and Jon met us there. Reed was scanning the audience for the first couple songs trying to find us, then he spotted Jon, yelled "there's Dad!!!" pointing and got much more into the music. He definitely didn't sing all of the words or remember all of the moves, but he had a good time, so that was great. Jon had a work meeting right after it ended but Kieran, Nonna, and I were able to go back to Reed's classroom and receive a gift he had made for us.
