Twenty-Two Months

This past month Kieran has been my side-kick two mornings a week. Sometimes we do Mommy and Me Yoga, sometimes we go to the park, and other days I have run an errand, or two, or three with him. I have to get him in and out of the car to drop Reed off for school and to pick him up so that means if we make two more stops he gets put into his car seat four times. This is a lot to ask of the Little Guy but for the most part he's been a Trooper and totally up for whatever adventure I've decided on.

The Bug has started to regularly jump (two feet off the ground an inch or two) which is pretty funny to watch. He also is in the phase where he loves to read the same book over, and over, and over, and over again studying each page - learning and memorizing. He's still my Daredevil who loves to laugh as his Brother whips him around, will jump off of any piece of furniture, and thinks Mom saying "that will hurt" is hilarious! I know I've mentioned it before but Kieran is showing a real interest in potty training. He usually manages to go to the bathroom in the toilet 1-3 times a day and if he goes in his diaper will report it almost immediately. He hates his diaper and wants to wear underwear so badly and has absolutely no interest in pull-ups, but for some reason thinks a swim diaper over his clothes is sufficient. I'm not joking and if you show up at my house unannounced there is a good chance you'll catch a glimpse of the ridiculous get-up. Unfortunately with the potty training comes some confusion and frustration. There are a lot of false alarms and he regularly wakes-up in the middle of the night or sometime between 5:00 and 6:00 am declaring he needs to go poop ("I need poop, I go poop, I need go poop, I need go poop"). It's almost impossible to get him to go back to sleep so my workout is usually cut short or my plan to sleep in doesn't happen, but I just keep telling myself it won't last forever and how neat it is that he is showing such initiative at such a young age.

Monthly Statistics

Weight: 25 lbs

Height: Didn't attempt this month

Clothing Size:  I can still squeeze him into some 12-18 month shorts but the 18-24 month pairs fit much better. Tops and pajamas are 18-24 months but they are starting to get a bit short and there are a few 2T items that have been added into the rotation.

Shoe size: Size 6.5

Teeth: 16, but I've noticed a lot of drooling lately and one morning he was complaining about his mouth hurting so I'm thinking some molars might be coming in soon.

Kieran likes: Doing anything with Dodger, including walking him, feeding him, petting him, and giving him lots of treats. K likes snacking, playing with bubbles, bath time, climbing up or on anything, balls, trying to play with Reed, Legos, playing in the tent, dance parties, reading books, playing outside, tickles, his play kitchen, opening cupboards, sorting and stacking toys, making silly faces with Dad, digging and playing in the dirt, doing "airplane" with Mom, hanging out with Lyla, going down slides, looking at pictures on my phone or that hang around the house, his special stuffed animals Gino the Gorilla and Max the Monkey.

Kieran dislikes: Diaper changes, long car rides, having the car seat strap touch his neck, having his face wiped, being told no, watching Mom leave, and getting things taken away from him.

Food: Still pretty much just a carb and fruit junkie but sometimes he will devour a side of meat.

Nicknames: Kier, K, K-Bug, Bug, Bugger, Kierito, Bug-a-boo, and Goldilocks.

How Kieran is sleeping: Kieran typically goes to bed between 7:30 and 8:00 pm. Wake-up time has been between 5:00 and 6:00 am usually because he's pooped in his diaper or needs to poop and asks to go to the potty.  He takes one nap, going down around 12:30 and usually sleeping 1.5 - 3 hours. He sleeps on a mattress on the floor with a couple of cuddly guys and usually a few books.

Communication: Kieran's vocabulary is still expanding and, as I mentioned above, his new thing is to request a book be read over and over again. He studies it very intently and tries to pick up as many words as he can. We have started to work with him on some of his sounds and will have him repeat a word a few times to improve pronunciation - he usually calls pancakes "yancakes" for example but says the word "pan" clearly so we'll have him say one then the other to help tie the sounds together.

Favorite Moment:
One night Kieran was crying in his room after we put him down. When it hadn't stopped after about ten minutes I went in to make sure he was okay. He requested that I hold him and then pointed out of his room, down the hall, and to our movie room. He then plopped himself on the couch and started laughing hysterically. Anything I said or asked just made him laugh harder. I let it go on way to long but he has the most amazing laugh and I just wanted to soak it up!!! It turns out he just wanted a blanket off of the couch but I'm so grateful I didn't figure it out right away and instead will always remember those 15 minutes of delirious joy!!!

Milestones:
08/13/15 - Begins unlocking (and locking) doors inside the house
08/26/15 - Manages to open the refrigerator and freezer doors
08/28/15 - Drinks successfully out of a cup with no lid
08/31/15 - Kieran is regularly able to get both feet off of the ground in a "jump"
09/02/15 - Pulls his pants off without assistance
